Duographs

A duograph results when (A) an additional halftone plate is made from a certain area or all of a black-and-white illustration and(B) the additional plate is used to printanother color into the black-and-white print. Since copy detail appears in both engravings, a much finer effect is achieved than if a screen tint block had merely been added. The area of the black-and-white original to which color must be added should be carefully delineated on an acetate overlay flap.

Duotones

When halftone illustrations, usually paintings, are rendered in only black, white and one primary color and shades and combinations of those colors, only two halftone color-process plates must be made from the copy. The consequent lower cost enhances the desirability of this method of illustration.
